Met Gala
The Met Gala - also known as the most fashionable night of the year, took place on Monday evening. For those who only take an interest for the fashions that array on the red carpet and don’t know the reason behind such an elaborate event, the Gala actually takes place every year for a very special reason. It is the biggest fundraiser on the fashion calendar with donations and proceeds going towards the Met’s Costume Institute.
The Met Ball marks the grand opening of the annual exhibit and each years event celebrates the same theme of that of the exhibition.
The theme this year was “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” which was selected to pay tribute to the masterworks of religious art. Andrew Bolton’s brilliant exhibition displays fashion inspired by Catholicism, as well as never before seen treasures from the Vatican archives.
Held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, we see celebrities, designers and artists alike sweep up the iconic stairs of the gallery for their grand entrance.
Custom halo’s, renaissance inspired outfits, crucifixes, floor sweeping gowns and of course Rihanna having her own take on Papal style with her custom made Maison Margiela gown.
